Our first ever trek to Evansville, IN brought us to Lamasco Bar, where Hed PE was headlining on their Detox tour. When you first walk in, it looks like your average patio bar, but once you walk into the stage area, you find a unique set up with a rounded corner stage and plenty of standing room. We were greeted by one of the friendliest crowds that lit up the room, knocked you to the ground, and then lifted you up again in the hardcore rock ritual known as the mosh pit.
Openers Nero Angelo and Kapable brought the hip-hop energy and talent expected to start the night out right. EndPass with their rocking Def Tone vibes brought a unique spin to a unique line up.
Of course, you never know what gems you will find in the openers. We specifically traveled to this show to see one of our favorite openers, Tha Dumpster Babies. Tha Dumpster Babies are what the underground rap scene is all about and the horrorcore duo never disappoints. Although they did not play our favorite track in “Oscar Must Die,” we will forgive them this time. This is a group to keep an eye out for.
We have seen Hed PE perform at festivals, arenas, bars and everything in-between. They always bring a high energy show and Lamasco was no exception. Jahred’s passion for music is obvious the moment you see him hit the stage. The set started with “No Way Out” off their newest album Detox, diving head first into a high energy, hard rock/rap anthem. The band maintained that level with “Rat Race” before sliding into some classic Hed PE fair. Throughout the set, Jahred would slide effortlessly into a reggae vibe, turning headbanging degenerates into cool smooth rhythmic souls just vibing with life. Of course, almost every Hed PE show finishes off with “Renegade,” which is a pure hard rock, punk anthem that takes the adrenaline to the next level, leaving you bruised and sore but wanting more.
Hed PE is like no other live show with their blend of hip-hop, rock, punk and reggae. They know how to work a crowd and always put on SHOW that you will never forget. Catch them on tour and don’t forget to see what Jahred has to say about touring, music, and more in our interview with him before the show.
